  1. July 2011: BENEO-Institute sees oligofructose approved in India

    The BENEO-Institute is pleased to announce the approval of its prebiotic fibre, oligofructose, for use with an even greater range of products in India. Having been approved for use in bakery products for several years, the Indian Ministry of Health has now opened the door for oligofructose to be used in a number of additional food categories in the country, including sweets, dairy products, frozen dessert, ice-cream, cereals, chocolates as well as meat applications.

  2. June 2011: Orafti®Synergy1 decreases energy intake in overweight and obese subjects

    Results of a new study led by Prof. Rob Welch (University of Ulster, Northern Ireland), show that BENEO’s Orafti®Synergy1 leads to lower energy intake in overweight and obese adults. The study was recently presented for the first time at the 18th European Congress on Obesity (ECO), which took place in Istanbul (May 25 - 28, 2011). Read more
  3. June 2011: BENEO-Institute shares expertise and latest findings on functional carbohydrates International experts will give an overview on the diversity of carbohydrates in human nutrition within the 11th Asian Congress of Nutrition, Singapore

    The BENEO-Institute will be hosting the symposium “Nutritional Quality of Carbohydrates” on the first day within the 11th Asian Congress of Nutrition, 13-16 July in Singapore. Chaired by Professor Jeya Henry, Oxford Brookes University, UK, the session will be giving insights into the characteristics and physiological benefits carbohydrates including dietary fibers can have on human health in different ages as well as an international regulatory update on status and claims. It takes place on Wednesday, July 13th 10.30am till 1.00pm. Read more
  4. May 2011: BENEO’s Orafti®Synergy1 proves its beneficial physiological and prebiotic effects in newborns

    The results of a new study demonstrate, that the supplementation of an infant formula with BENEO’s Orafti®Synergy1 (oligofructose-enriched inulin) has a favourable prebiotic effect and is well tolerated by babies. This study was led by Prof. Gigi Veereman-Wauters (Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at UZ Brussels, Belgium) and conducted at the Queen Paola and Middelheim Hospitals ZNA Antwerp, Belgium, in cooperation with BENEO-Institute.   1. April 2011: BENEO’s claims for ISOMALT and Palatinose™ receive positive EFSA opinion

    Not a ‘black’ but ‘bright Friday’ for BENEO on April 8, 2011. All Article 13.1 claims filed by BENEO for ISOMALT and Palatinose™ (isomaltulose) have been positively evaluated by EFSA within the 4th batch. The claims in question relate to two areas in which the choice of food can make a difference: one is the maintenance of dental health and the second concerns the reduction of post-prandial glycaemic response, in short the low-glycaemic effect. The BENEO-Institute however is realistic enough to know that there still many steps to take on this ‘claims journey’.

    As part of the BENEO-Institute’s commitment to encouraging the promotion of research and knowledge-sharing within the field of functional ingredients, Dr Sandra Macfarlane has been asked to give her insights on the subject at the 2nd International Symposium on Pro- and Prebiotic, taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia on 4th and 5th August.

    Thanks to new research from Holub et al, recently appeared in the British Journal of Nutrition’s online version, BENEO’s Palatinose™ (isomaltulose) disaccharide carbohydrate has been shown to offer distinct physiological benefits, following a detailed series of human studies.
