BENEO presents healthy and ready-to-use natural solutions for sugar replacement

BENEO, a leading manufacturer of functional ingredients, has presented its natural solutions for sugar replacement, broadening its portfolio for manufacturers of food with nutritional and healthy benefits. Formed three years ago the BENEO Group’s innovative and proactive approach is showing no signs of slowing down. Addressing the market need for developing convenient ingredient solutions, at this year’s Hi Europe exhibition (HiE) in Madrid, BENEO presented its new concepts that provide manufacturing convenience without sacrificing taste, functionality and quality.

Natural solutions for sugar replacement

BENEO’s new natural solutions for sugar replacement provide a synergistic effect by offering well-balanced combinations of BENEO’s bulk sweeteners: ISOMALT, Palatinose™, inulin and oligofructose including Stevia sweeteners, completing the manufacturer’s portfolio. Displaying product samples varying from baked products sweetened with Stevia and inulin to hard boiled sweets containing ISOMALT and Stevia, BENEO showed HiE visitors how the new solutions can be used and in which applications, successfully demonstrating its long-standing knowledge of healthy, naturally-derived and nutritional sweetening solutions. 

With its profound expertise in agglomeration technique, BENEO also presented natural solutions for sugar replacement with agglomerated grades of its sweeteners. The agglomeration process enables the precise and uniform distribution of each ingredient and its respective functionality, with even small amounts of functional ingredients being homogenously spread.    

Meeting the need – easy handling and unique solutions with agglomerates

Manufacturers will benefit significantly from BENEO’s new solutions. Agglomerated ingredients can be individually composed to offer specific advantages to an end product, whether they are technical (such as easy to compress), sensorial (such as a product’s well-balanced sweetening profile) or nutritional (such as a product’s gut health or toothfriendly properties). Product samples have even shown that the inclusion of micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals is feasible. Being available either in powder or tablet format, they are ready-to-use both during the manufacturing process and the packaging process, proving that BENEO’s agglomerated natural solutions meet manufacturers’ need for convenient handling. 

The characteristics of agglomerated ingredients include good dispersibility and dissolution, which is important for direct oral applications such as instant drinks. They are also dust-free, which facilitates processes such as manufacturing and packaging, and low hygroscopic, which ensures no lumping. BENEO’s agglomerated sweetening concepts’ characteristics make them ideal for ready-to-use powders or tablets in instant formulations, powder shots, confectionery, sports drink, table top sweeteners and dietary supplements. Formulated from the ability to offer agglomerated ingredients they will enable BENEO to branch into new markets and offer its customers alternative, more efficient processes for functional and healthy products. 

Within the BENEO portfolio different variants of agglomerated sweeteners are available:

  • Mono-composed agglomerated bulk sweeteners represent the agglomerated grades of a single ingredient e.g. ISOMALT DC and Palatinose™ DC
  • Iso-sweet agglomerated sweeteners describe a mix of bulk sweeteners and other sweetening aids such as Stevia resulting, in a sweetness similar to sugar

  • Table Top Sweetener with added value based on Palatinose™ or inulin as bulk sweeteners and Stevia. While as sweet as sugar, the product is calorie-reduced and fibre enriched
  • Sports performance instant drink with Palatinose™ and Stevia combined with relevant minerals and vitamins. Aimed at sports people, providing prolonged energy with no artificial HIS and offering technical and nutritional benefits for manufacturers
